Introduced in 2016, the city circuit of Baku has been renamed as the GP of Europe. Last year the race was intense and despite being a city track no safety car was employed.
Baku, the “Black City”, became famous and made its fortune for the exploitation of the numerous oilfields. The first drilling of the world discovered since 1848 but has roots that go back in time till Marco Polo which described the city as “a fountain that pours so much oil to fulfill one hundred ships. But not to eat, to burn”. Through Baku used to pass the ancient Silk Road and all the wealth that derived from the commerce made Baku prosper for years.
Nowadays through this historic city, that has partly changed with a skyline of brand new and modern buildings, runs the F1 Championship, reflecting the desire of Baku to be part of Europe’s elite. The numerous clubs, rooftops or bars along the seaside with the incredible restaurants and the shops of the most prestigious brands will fit perfectly to spend some time waiting for the races.
